a local indian language. It has been designed to give pleasure
to nature lovers and ambitiuos, demanding fishers. It
is located in the heart of Patagonia Argentina, a privileged
place for fly-fishing and other typical activities of the
area . Elegance and comfort have been combined to provide
an excellent and personalized service.
Challhuaquen Lodge opened its doors to the public in the year
2004. It is in the valley of Trevelin, Province of Chubut
on the river bank of Rio Futaleufu or Grande, in front
of Parque Nacional Los Alerces. This lodge stands on a
ravine thus, it offers a magnificent view of the river and
the snow-covered, wooded mountains.
This lodge has only six spacious and comfortable double
rooms to fulfill the need of the guests to find a place
to relax in full privacy. All rooms have a bathroom and a
wonderful view of river Futaleufu and Parque Nacional Los
Alerces. There is also a living-room, a restaurant and a bar
where you can share a drink with your friends. Last but not
least the lodge has a SPA to relax after a tiring fishing
day in the sauna or jacuzzi while you contemplate the river,
the mountains and the irresistible sunsets.
Challhuaquen Lodge is framed by nature. It offers a top-quality
service to fishermen and guests who come with them, giving
the chance to the latter to enjoy different activities such
as: visiting Parque Nacional Los Alerces, horse-riding, trekking,
bird-watching and mountain bike. There are some nice combined
outings such as overland 4x4, trekking, mountain bike and
horse -riding. You can also visit the falls or travel by "La
Trochita", a very old train, or have some Welsh tea. If
you like water you cannot miss travelling by ship and seeing
Glaciar Torrecillas and Bosque de Alerces. Go rafting or on
a safari along Futaleufú river and visit Lago Rosario, Esquel
and Trevelín.
The fishing area called Comarca de los Alerces, is internationally
known as one of the most important Salmonidal fishing places
in the world. It is characterized by a big number of original
glaciar lakes and hundreds of rivers and streams, with a variety
of truots as well as salmons, wich were introduced in this
territory 100 years ago. Challhuaquen is placed at the
north shore of de Futaleufu river, considered itself one of
the greastest fishing spots in the Patagonia. The trout
of Patagonia (brown, rainbow, and brook trout) averages 12-20
inch. Intermediate fly fishermen can expect to land trouts
of over 20 inches and experienced anglers have a good chance
of landing 5-15 pund trouts. Many rivers also contain landlocked
salmon, which can exceed 10 pounds.
Challhuaquen and Patagonia offers a first class "off-season"
fishing (November thru mid April), in a scenery very similar
to the western states in the US, particularly Montana and
Wyoming some 50 or more years ago. Good fishing in crystal-clear
waters, surrounded by glacial lakes, millenarian trees, and
magnificent landscapes is combined in Challhuaquen Lodge with
the elegance and comfort that could make such experience unique.
