GENERAL
INFORMATION:
Algodon Wine Estates & Champions Club is located
close to San Rafael City in the southern part of the Mendoza
Province. It is the second largest city in the Province, next
to the city of Mendoza. At 100 years old, San Rafael is in
a full upswing of economic, cultural, and demographic expansion
and offers its visitors the celebrated distinction of its
green spaces, vineyards and wineries, museums, and neighboring
resorts and lodges. San Rafael delivers an array of activities
including restaurants and wineries that offer some of the
world’s best food and wine.
Algodon Wine Estates & Champions Club
lodge, built in 1921, has been completely refurbished. This
recent renovation has stayed true to the original farmhouse
design by having kept its original adobe walls and cane roof.
Each room, with its authentic old-world charm, features a
fireplace and access to a private gallery for a warm and inviting
environment. At Algodón Wine Estates/Viñas del Golf you will
find resort amenities the likes of which can only be found
on a classic Argentinean vineyard estate. Among them are our
beautiful 9-hole golf course, restaurant and clubhouse, wine-tasting
room, cooking classes, horseback riding, tours of our remarkable
vineyards, swimming pool, library, wireless internet, and
satellite television.
THE
GOLF COURSE:
Whether you’re a lover of the game or not, you’ll undoubtedly
appreciate the brilliantly crafted beauty of Algodón Wine
Estates & Champions Club course. The remarkable estate
features a championship course that harmoniously intermingles
with nearly 170 acres of vineyards, water reserves, and fruit
trees. What makes the course so special is the unique variety
of its holes; each named after its specific surroundings or
location within the vineyard. Hole 1 is surrounded by our
marvelous olive trees, and thus called "Olivos". Hole 2 is
set on our water reserve and is complimented by stunning willow
trees, we call this hole "Sauces". Hole 3 is set among Malbec
vines and poplars, we call this hole "Malbec". Around our
4th hole you’ll find yourself in the company of walnut trees,
Hole 4 is called "Nogales". Hole 5 crosses a Bonarda vineyard
and is aptly named "Bonarda", while Hole 6, called "Damascos",
has a backdrop of apricot trees. From the tees of Hole 7 and
Hole 8 the golfer will enjoy a breathtaking view of the entire
estate, these holes are called "Syrah" and "Cabernet", respectively.
Finally, at Hole 9 we honor the memory of José Jurado.
This hole is a replica of the 17th hole of Carnoustie, Scotland,
where in 1931 José Jurado missed winning the British Open
by one stroke. Electric golf carts, and manual pull carts
or caddies are available at your request.
THE
WINERY:
The building of our winery commenced in October 2002 under
the supervision of a team that included engineers, architects
and enologists (specialists in wine making). The first section
was completed during March of 2003. Located at the heart of
the estate, the winery sits eight hundred meters (2624.7 feet)
above sea level and overlooks the vineyards and golf course.
The winery is 350 square meters (3767 square feet) and has
a vat capacity of 150,000 liters. The Elaboration and Conservation
room lay at ground level, above an underground cave where
the wine matures. We have designed our winery exclusively
for the purpose of making world-class wines, but solely in
limited quantities. This ensures our ability to implement
all the care and attention necessary to obtain optimum results
and the best product possible. Our careful quality control
begins with the grapes and continues throughout the entire
process, all the way up to the labeling. Grapes are harvested
by hand and collected in small buckets; the resultant wine
then matures in French and American oak barrels. Among our
discriminative collection, we turn out micro wine production
of the varieties Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Merlot, Bonarda,
Blend Rose and our very special Grand Blend. Craftsmanship
and tradition, combined with the latest technology, allow
us to obtain only the highest quality of wines. Our wines
can only be found in the local markets in limited quantities,
exported exclusively to a few select vendors, and of course
right here at our winery for our own distinguished guests.
